The Weeping Grounds The Chronicles of Covent J L Ficks J E Dugue 9781500292164 Books Reviews

My favorite dark elf assassin shade is back & once again he is fighting for what is right. I really enjoyed reading the weeping grounds & finished it in a day. I could not put it down. In the beginning shade is not his usual bada** self but there is a reason for that. I really like how the authors gave shade a conscience but did not make him dwell on it to the point that he becomes whiney . There was a hint of religion in the story which did not bother me at all. I thought weeping grounds was a very good story and I look forward to reading the next adventure of shade.
This is the first book I have read in this series and feel I would have benefited from reading the chronicles 1 & 2 first although I still enjoyed reading book 3.

The book comes under the genre fantasy fiction and is well written by the co-authors J.L. Ficks and J.E. Dugue.
They have been combining their thoughts on Fantasy worlds for many years until the World of Covent was written.

Shade is a dark elf assassin that is pulled from the sands when a band of Western Slave traders think they have struck gold. The slave traders do not realise what they have unearthed. Throughout the course of this book Shade embarks on a journey which includes many twists and turns. He is prepared to suffer torture to ensure he can fulfil what he has set out to achieve.

Whilst I do not wish to spoil the ending for readers I can say Shade achieves what he has set out to do, learning the true meaning of humiliation and suffering doing the way.

This is a well written book and holds your attention from the beginning to the final page.
I haven't read a fantasy series as engaging as this one since I got off the R.A. Salvatore train many years ago, but there is something about this Chronicles series that keeps me coming back for more. Shade is a pretty incredible character, and in some ways, seems directly inspired by some of my favorite fantasy authors and lead characters, but he is also completely unique. His inner demons and intense experiences as a legendary assassin give him seemingly endless depths to explore, and his single-minded focus on his task helps him overcome unbelievable abuse and mental anguish.

The psychological horrors, the excruciatingly detailed fight scenes, and the sinister tone of doom and gloom that pervade this book gave it a sharp, dark edge that resonated stronger in this book than the other two. The epic conclusion of this book was a major payoff, and without any spoilers, let's just say that Shade finally gets his day in the sun. Excellent gripping fantasy from a true talent in the genre!
The Weeping Grounds The Chronicles of Covent is a masterful work of pure fiction. It's the third installment of the ongoing Shade Chronicles and is co-authored by J.L. Ficks and J.E. Dugue. These two young men have been friends since the third grade and have endeavored together to bring to print a series of very engaging, and successful books. From the first sentence on, I was captivated by the mental scenery and character development employed by these two gifted writers. It didn't surprise me to learned that it had been co-authored having noticed a change in the writing.style. This didn't detract from the storyline but did cause me to re-read some of the passages. I commented more than once to my wife that the word usage and sentence structure had changed. Even modern day colloquialisms began to appear, such as "...blew his mind." But like I said, no big thing. The main character Shade, an assassin highly skilled in the art of killing and subterfuge, has been contracted by unknown parties to punish those responsible for a very lucrative slave trade that has flourished unabated for years. Gaining the respect of those around him and winning over a motley crew of slaves, Shade set his plan in motion. Exacting his and their revenge, Shade, and his small army leave no knives underthrown, no battleaxes unspotted in blood, no bodies unmaimed or those culpable, unburied—just what the doctor ordered, right? Try it. You, too, may like it.
Exciting, Great Read!!
Great read.
Overall, I enjoyed this series, but this volume was very difficult to read. I felt as though I was forced to edit as I read. It's almost as if this book was released prior to being edited. Very frustrating.
